And as quickly as it started, another class at Animation Mentor has come to a close. This term I had, as a mentor, Bryan Engram. Bryan works for ReelFX in Texas, and he had a real knack for pointing out my weaknesses, which is exactly what you want in a teacher! I feel like I learned a ton. Here's the reel so you can see for yourself!
And so, twelve weeks later, my first class at Animation Mentor (.com) comes to an end. I had a lot of fun. My classmates and mentor, Josh Book, were a complete laugh riot in the weekly Q&A's and I learned a lot more than I even expected to in my first class. I've animated bouncing balls before but I finally feel like I'm really grasping the fundamentals of the art form.
I've compiled a reel of my assignments from the first term, so check it out and let me know what you think!
I thought today I'd post some illustration work I've done. It also was a lot of fun character design done experimentally. I hope to someday illustrate an entire children's book. But these were a fun start.
I thought today I'd share some of my pre-production sketches. There is no limit to the amounts of sketches one can do when developing a character, although it's tempting to stick with the first sketch you did. Actually during the course of "Attack of the Zerbert" I aged my main girl character down 4 or 5 years! Good character design is a difficult but really enjoyable task.
This is a little animation I did in my very first semester as an animation student. It was a short experimental project using graphite drawn and erased on vellum, and I think it turned out pretty neat!
